Why Didn'T We Listen

In the sixties we were told
"Love Is All You Need".
I watch the news and I read the paper
But I see no love.
Why didn't we listen?

In the sixties we were told
to love everyone not matter race, color, or creed.
I watch the news and I read the paper
And there's prejudice everywhere.
Why didn't we listen?

In the sixties we were told that war was bad and to
"Give Peace A Chance".
I watch the news and I read the paper
And all I see is war.
Why didn't we listen?

Won't somebody please tell me
Why didn't we listen?
