Why Can'T We

Why Can’t We? Are we not all mere music notes sprinkled on the grand staff of time, alterations between sharp and flat spanning a few chords looking for some thoughtful orchestration? Are we not but specks from the dust of stars, all equal in breath and design, fleeting sounds still striving to be heard from afar signs hoping to be harmonized, waiting? Why then do we thrive on friction, battling like giant tectonic plates colliding in the dark never to be reconciled? Why by so much division are we plagued? Why can’t we look up and greet a new day, make a new friend without always asking dividing questions and wanting to weigh what so brightly stands before us, shining?

Beau-ti-ful my friend! Nowadays poetry comes first for me, but poetry music and dance (I cannot separate the three) are a perfect triangle, equally important. And yes, if only.... Music, dance, poetry, it waltzes right through cultures, differences and defences. If only..... 7 from me.

I love it Darren, I think you just hit on the word that separates us all: defences. So many people put up walls the minute they sort of disagree or don't fully understand. If only we could have them sing or dance their defences away . . . and embrace their differences!

A poem full of insight. Specks of wasted star dusts but pompous in living and destruction. Write a paper about this in a journal, Coreggia

Thanks, Solomon, but I am partial to music and poetry, and I'm afraid that in a longer format, I would just end up with some 'preachy' ramblings:)

Good Morning Anne-Marie. I wish I knew. When you have the answer let us know. Why can't we have love instead of anger. Why can't we appreciate beauty instead of walking away. Why can't we live in the moment instead of it passing us by. You truly have expressed yourself clearly. You allow the reader to pause and reflect. Have a wonderful morning and day. Well done completely and entirely.

The answers lie in the wind my friend, like Chris would probably say; we just need to listen, but we too often close all doors and windows the minute the wind blows too strong, and it is precisely when we need to listen the most.

You have me wandering through a mine field of questions, ready to shake my conscious mind into reflecting the meaning of happiness and motivate me to seek answers buried within questions yet to be explored. As always the author pours out her soul and paints her words with truth and emotion. Emile.

Wow, Emile, I hope you don't get blown up in this 'mind' field:) Joking aside, I do think we need to have more and more people of all ages discuss the 'big' questions that both unite us and divide us. I'm thrilled because my oldest daughter is soon to become an elementary school instructor, and Oh the lessons we can teach these kids!

Age old question re-framed in poetic metaphor, ebony and ivory, live together on the piano keyboard oh Lord why cant we? Lyrics by Paul Mccartney. Beautifully written Anne-Marie helping us see the big picture.

I love how you started with a musical theme and ended with the problems many of us have to deal with because if everyone would just start with music, I think a lot of these problems would disappear on their own. Music is everything to me, it invokes passion love, harmony and peace for the most part. :) If only people would take the time to listen. This was beautiful my friend, I really loved this poem and the message you are expressing.

Music, poetry, art, and languages should be the bedrock of schools all over the world. I think it would redefine humanity. But, like you, I'm partial to music and I would put it first and foremost because it allows for the expression of so many feelings and ideas, usually without most people passing judgment on them.

Anne-Marie, love your vivid images, especially the tectonic plates. The age old question...why can't we all get along. Part of the answer, we must ALL respect each others differences. No define nor criticise just Love. Hugs my friend. :)

Kim, I agree, 'we must All respect each others differences' and I think that, the day we actually 'embrace' each others differences, we'll make real progress.
