'who Is Sylvia'

Sylvia I was christened And for sixteen years it suited fine. It was then I started working Where another had this name of mine. "To avoid confusion"some bright spark said "Why not call the original(fifty year old)Sylvia by her name And the new one junior instead" Well I was most indignant, teenage ego crushed. I wasn't going to have this at all. So I reached a compromise shortened it toJune And only responded to this call. From then on to everyone even future spouse I introduced myself by this name. Sylvia in personal life slipped away. But for officialdom it remained the same.... I penned this to avoid a build up of confusion And to protect this poet's sanity. Please super Soup friends call me June. When you write Sylvia my mind asks 'who is she'?

Well-written and enjoyable to read. Thanks for sharing it. A name change can be traumatic under certain conditions. My wife changed her first name when she married and moved away. Some of her family were just awful about it. Her first name was a name that in the South is usually given to a cow, but her relatives didn't care about her feelings. An ill-chosen name can cause so many problems, like the boy idiot parents named "Adolph Hitler." Elton

Nice to meet you June. Interesting story. Sounds like you have avoided the identity crisis this could have caused. Me - I go by the old adage: "I don't care what you call me, just don't call me late for supper." I will try to remember this tale - but, since you have SYLVIA as your name on the poems, please forgive me if I call you Sylvia in future comments. Joe
