White Horses, the Mind of a Child

As the sun slips away from a near perfect day So the wind brings to life her white horses They chase the cool breeze on the edge of the waves Moving any which way the wind courses Hooves beat the sound as the waves crash on down Lashing foam to the brink of the breakers Her white horses rise to the swell of the tides Before falling back down to their makers White horses..... they're galloping free White horses..... reins chained to the sea White horses..... trapped deep in her mind White horses..... in the mind..... of a child As the darkness approaches her vision grows dim Yet she still hears their hoof beats so clearly And the thrashing and churn as they try to break free Never reaching the shoreline but nearly Then the night time descends and the wind eases off And the stars lead away her white horses For the sea is now calm and the air moist and warm And the night's full of enchanted forces In a child's mind when the wind blows And the waves crash water dances In a child's mind fantasy grows As white horses she romances White horses..... they're galloping free White horses..... reins chained to the sea White horses..... trapped deep in her mind White horses..... in the mind..... of a child Jane Shields (C)
