Howard Strachan
Whispering Strawn or Strack they did say,
After he was shot in the head one fine day,
He was in New Guinea in the thick of the fight,
At Templeton crossing near lost his life,
So he laid around for 10 awful days,
The Doctor just shook his head, and he say's,
Said Howard was dead, in a coma a week,
But when he sat up, his voice was a squeak,
He got back his sight,
And climbed to his feet,
Picked up his Tommy gun,
He wasn’t weak,
So back into battle went Lt Strawn,
But his voice never rose,
his whisper the norm,
He survived the war,
The shooting was done,
Took it all in his stride,
This brave Aussie son.

Howard he was shot through the forehead the bullet passed right through.
The Doctor said he was dead, but he was still wriggling. He squirmed around in the junglefor ten days, then he got up. Howard was still blind, deaf and dumb hadn't eaten for 10 days, but once he could see he went to the front line.
