Whispering a Sigh

"Can you feel the soul of an abandoned house;
can you hear the whispering? "
 Quote by _Constance La France

Felt very strange that a house whispers!
Standing in front of the house
Where I spent three years of my childhood,
I could hear the story it does bear for me!

The rusty gate creaks open,
I enter with hesitant steps,
The once-cherished garden uncared for,
for a long time,
Tall trees have grown even taller,
Bushes have spread uncontrollably,
The lonely swing is broken, tilting to one side.

Decided to enter the house…
The majestic mahogany staircase caught my eyes!
No more the noise of giggling children running up and down!
The dusty staircase whispers the story of my father!

He built this house with most of his money,
He planned to live a quiet pastoral village-life after retiring!
Before he was ready, he had a massive heart-attack,
He passed away!

Looks like the house is still holding its breath
and waiting for him!
Does it really have a soul,
which is still searching for the man who never came back?
Dry Leaves crumble under my feet in
the orchard, whispering a sigh!

I can so well relate. I too have a sweet home that evokes such sweet childhood memories, but now in a deserted state. Each time I cross its courtyard, it seems to whisper so many things. Enjoyed your sweet poem which took me back to my childhood. Congratulations Mala on your first place win.

Mala, such a wonderful poem, it appears that your recollections continue to thrive within that abode, as though the dwelling remains in a state of suspended animation, eagerly anticipating your return. Could it be that the house possesses a spirit, one that persistently seeks the man who vanished without a trace? In a similar manner, the rustling of withered foliage beneath your feet in the orchard seems to emit a mournful sigh. Congrats on your top win.

Dear Poet, your comments on this poem felt more creative than my writing! How imaginatively you have portrayed the "suspended animation" of the abandoned house! This is actually a real story from my life - this house comes back to my writing again and again, in many different ways! I also like the way you have described "the house possesses a spirit, one that persistently seeks the man who vanished without a trace?" Thank you, Dear friend, for supporting me in my poetic journey with brilliant comments.

Hi Darlene, you are right. This house comes to my memory again and again! Probably because, when I remember the house, I remember my father. Thanks for your visit, Dear Friend. Love and friendship ~ Mala
