WHICH WOLF WILL YOU BE FEEDING
It is impossible when I’m, looking out over the mountains in N. C.
not to feel the influence, the presence…the spirit of the Cherokee.
When I think how in this country and the world…
there is a battle between people who are inhumane to one another…
and those who are compassionate and kind..
up here in the mountains of North Carolina…
the Cherokee story of Two Wolves pops into mind.
A grandfather was telling his grandson about a battle that rages in everyone.
A battle between two wolves…that in each one of us…must be won…
One wolf is an evil wolf…filled with anger that it needs to feed…
In that wolf you find envy, jealousy, sorrow resentment, false pride, lies and greed.
This wolf is full of hate, arrogance…ego and feelings of superiority…
which makes any place this wolf resides…a sad and miserable place to be.
The other wolf is a good wolf. Filed with love, unselfishness and generosity
In this wolf you find peace, joy and kindness mixed with hope and serenity.
This wolf is full of benevolence, truth, acceptance and humility…
It’s honesty and empathy makes any place this wolf resides…a beautiful place to be.
Not only are we as individuals fighting this battle …a battle one day we hope to quell…
but our country and the world are fighting this battle as well.
The solution can be found in the Cherokee story…
(which would be good to know before any battle begins)
When the grandson turned to his grandfather and asked…
“Grandfather…which is the wolf that wins?”
His grandfather looked to the heavens, sighed then said
Grandson it’s simple…the wolf that will succeed”…
here he turned his gaze directly into his grandson’s eyes
“Is the wolf we choose to feed.”
So in a world where hate is hurting so many people
Where love and kindness are what so many people are needing…
I go back to the story of the Two Wolves and ask…
Which wolf will you be feeding?
