Where the Poets Are

they're writing of their memories and things that they have seen
by walking down their childhood paths to places they have been

they're rocking with the sinners and they're rolling with the saints
by spreading love with brush strokes from the pallet of God's paints

they're shouting out injustices in free verse, rhyme and prose
by exposing all the naked lies of emperors in new clothes

they're caring for the destitute who die upon the street
by praying for a world that's one like oceans when they meet

they're mourning as one family when poets leave the stage
by making sure each writer's soul remains upon the page

they're finding hope and comfort in a time of war somehow

the poets are

where poets are

and we need them all right now.

Great pen Gary with nice imagery and good rhyme too. A really well tumed piece to make all poets sit up and get their thoughts on to ink filled pages. Have a great day,Gordon

Gary, another excellent write. I particularly like the line "spreading love with brush strokes from the pallet of God's paints", and the phrase "making sense of sadness" but every couplet speaks of an important aspect of what a poet's role is. The last three couplets are particularly poignant. Well done, and congrats ~ John

Thanks John. I must admit that at the moment I'm spending time trying to make sense as to what is going on in the world. Poetry certainly helps..writing it and reading others' work. Cheers - Gary

Thank you Eve. Like a few poems of mine recently it's a rewrite with much editing of an older poem. I tend to do this once in a while when my ideas dry up. Cheers - Gary

Ahh!! Such a nice work about poets everywhere. I enjoyed reading your work. In regards to the post on my poem, Brown Thrashers are a species of North American continent as far as I know. I don't believe there are any in the UK. Thanks for the visit. Sara

Hi Sara! Thank you for your lovely comments and the heads up about the Thrasher bird. Covid has opened my eyes to nature. In the quiet of the lockdowns nature just got louder. Cheers - Gary
