Where Are You Daddy
288 bottles of cheap red wine
4 long exhausting road trips
76 blasé matinee movies
14 loud live-music venues
Drown the pain
Distract from the present
Escape reality
Forget the memories
Shallow breath
Empty stomach
Heavy heart
Aching back
Large lump
Real tears
Sad eyes
Remember to breathe
Don’t forget you’re still here
He died three years ago, not yesterday
But, it’s not fair!
I can no longer feel his warm lips kiss my soft cheek
Or sit next to him at a poker game sensing our closeness
Three years ago
My dad’s body left this earth
His soul entered another dimension
And his spirit is now free as a bird
But I’m here
He’s gone
And I miss him
