When Xi trumped Trump
Keen betwixt two to bridge the gap,
And to wear a top leader’s cap,
Xi talked of a Thucydides Trap.
Whilst Trump seemed caught taking a nap.
When back to face critics at home
Conceding his ground what with dome,
His China meet wrapped in feigned form--
Thin on substance, nuance nor norm.
Xi wielded a virtual win,
Trump trading on frost frozen thin,
America’s Suez moment?
Mighty clear and loud seemed the dent.
Trump’s whitewash to news guys way back
On Air Force One showed clear this crack,
On Taiwan, a taciturn Trump
Showed up loud this policy lump.
‘We wish to fight no war, no way--
One, many a miles far away’.
On tariffs, for which he went there,
He’s returned lumpy hands laid bare.
Restrained reception said it all
Against expectations nigh tall,
Missing was much-boasted big hug,
A big gulf has deeper been dug.
