When Trains Ruled

Train coming down
my way, hearing
its whistle gives
my heart a thrill.

Such a long load
this train is pulling,
going to places
far away and beyond.

Thinking of better days
when trains ruled travel,
bringing this grand country
together for us all to see.

wrote 1-21-09

saw this train at Jim Baker Reservoir in Denver Co
I filmed it then wrote this poem this morning.

Enjoy your poems James. They put the reader at ease and invoke peaceful memories. When I was a kid we had a train that went by the school yard every day belching and chugging thick black smoke. Thought it was pretty cool to check out back then

There is something about a train whistle, that pulls one's imagination! Nicely written, James. ~ Carrie
