When Serenity Trembled To Exist

The eyes from war swell from memory's mist
Of trees without limbs to hold up the sky
When serenity trembled to exist
Between crumbled bodies and death's moans cry
The sounds of hell and warm wind's stench of war
In the broken mind dark when the screams weigh
And dead faces lag on forevermore
To leave vacant the eyes from yesterday
When fear so primal was to hear death call
And it all seemed so pointless evil insane
With demons that came to make my soul crawl
In war's bloody realm my soul will remain
To cry from guilt, those who died in my sight
To visit the dead how long my respite

Whew, this is very powerful again. Reached me deeply. You described it so vividly. and I know how guilt of seeing someone die can 'haunt' and 'torture'. Well written Frederic! I hope this does well in the contest. Happy New Year! :)
