When Rhett Said That He Didn'T Give a Damn

When Rhett said that he didn’t give a damn
to Scarlett in that famed scene we all know,
it was a little scandalous back then
to hear that damn word at the movie show!

Who said the bad word first?. . . It shouldn’t matter
on whom that strange distinction was bestowed.
The world was changing. Right around the corner
Rock and Roll was ready to explode!

And even long before “Gone With the Wind,”
words much more vulgar had through history
been used by folks in nearly every culture
in every level of society!

Good taste and etiquette still do remain
among the educated, yet a gang
of thugs inside a movie would sound lame
with dialog like “I don’t give a dang!”

You know I still have not watched that movie. I guess there are many I have not watched. I would flunk out on movie trivia. LOL. Well that is it for tonight. I am tired but wanted to catch up on a few of your poems. love phyl

I do think desperation brings such words to bare upon the moment; Rhett thought he could change her or save her from herself. He could not. We have all been there when the moment overloads and the emotional fuse is blown. The scene was perfect as she contiues on into madness saying "Tomarrow is another day." Stopped by to say hi.

How do you come up with these ideas Andrea? I loved Gone with the wind and it did celebrate a lot of firsts. I loved the humor in this creative write!

Very young and modern poem, I feel. Surely, sometimes the word damn inspires to go ahead silently in heart too. Lovely done. Loved always, bl

Yes. Like, I don't give a darn. To me the movies today are childish, using four letter words just to be naughty. Gone with the Wind ended with those words. The rest was just routine Hollywood. My opinion only. Love, daver
