When Madness Grins

When Madness Grins When madness grins, the mirrors blink, And all the clocks begin to drink. Time forgets its careful lines— And paints the air in crooked signs. Mice wear monocles to preach at dawn, Clouds dress up in suits and fawn. The moon plays marbles with the sun, While nightmares nap when day is done. The moon forgot her name last night, So she borrowed one from a passing flower. The stars just shrugged and sipped their tea, While Jupiter danced with a bumblebee. Transformed intuition crumbles— Stardust, sprinkling, sparkling garden gnomes Dance in the visions of my thirst. They bow to toadstools crowned in moss, Reciting poems to albatross. My dreams wear socks of mismatched hue, And hum in colors thoughts once knew. Mab or Mave, the silhouette of my queen Vorpal swords to Jabberwocky dreams Flit and fly against my skein. Words melt like honey on a crooked spoon, Whispered by owls that juggle the moon. I hiccup sonnets, burp out lore, While riddles tapdance through my floor. Dancing elves and gumdrop desire Bring May flowers— When the rainbow shatters, April showers. So sip the sun through a peppermint straw, Let nonsense be the only law. The world makes sense when turned askew— And madness grins… because it’s true.
