When in Manhattan

One way to tell a tourist
In the New York City scene
Is if someone on a corner waits
Until the light turns green.

For natives look both ways, of course,
And if no traffic’s there,
They cross against the light or else
Mid-block, without a care.

This always was illegal, yet
We locals would insist
That the law was so ignored it seemed
It didn’t quite exist.

Well, now that’s true, for since last week
Jaywalking is allowed,
So all you tourists, take a chance
And join the New York crowd.

Breaking the law is a must. Someone had to teach me how to cross in a big city. I would still be waiting at a light if she didn't teach me.

Dear Ilene, I loved how you humorously captured the essence of New York City life! I love how you highlight the contrast between tourists and locals with such clever observations. It’s a delightful showing the city’s unique rhythm. Autumn Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

- Too much traffic, Ilene ... I don't dare cross the street in New York City - Where I live, the bus comes 3 times a day and very little traffic ... I only meet neighbors occasionally ... some days I don't see anyone :) - hugs

Your poem's are always spot on in rhyme and meter and a pleasure to read, dear. I'll keep that in mind if I ever get the chance to visit NYC... jaywalking is the norm here, so...I have experience.
