When I Was Young

When I was young
time was never
my first consideration.
Oh! I knew Time
could translate
into money: or a restful
afternoon in the sun
could manifest as
greater productivity
in the long-run—
but “A Life’s Finale Moments”
seldom was of major consideration…
nor did enter, in a feverish rush,
the thought to get
things done quickly--
things that could help
others and perhaps leave
the world a better place
for my having been here….

When the arthritis increases
sleep not nearly as long
nor as restful, and the mind
more forgetful, Time seems
to take on new dimensions
crowding out the self-centered
old--

the most regretful
is the later understanding
that little we do in life
makes a great difference
in the over-all
scheme of things

and all we do
no matter how large
or small
is a great matter
to God….

I am a weird one. I honestly have no regrets and you do make a difference. Perhaps nobody ever told you? I don't want my youth back, never. I made errors galore. I still do. Going to live with God one day is a most perfect conclusion. I do know how I impacted lives. It was far from insignificant. I had great mentors who helped me value myself. Love from Panagiota who values you!

Thank you for your very honest and positive comments. In the end, we have to feel comfortable with ourselves and our relationship with God. I just try to make myself the best person I can be...and then, what should follow is a better world. I think too often people are more concerned with changing things outside of themselves. In the greater scheme of things, I believe there is nothing I can do or say that, in time, will not be done or said by someone else (and Life has an eternity to wait). I think Life is more about, each of us, developing a closer conscious relationship with God. But, as you say, no one should ever eat 'Thine Own Heart' with regret. This is a sin against self and God's loving grace.

Thank you, Si; I deeply regret wasted time--for it was never mine alone to waste. Blessings my friend!
