When a Cadillac Was Distinctive
When a Cadillac Was Distinctive
By Elton Camp
I well remember the time way back in the day
A Cadillac meant things were going your way
Confuse it with lesser cars? Nope, no chance
A Caddy was recognizable with just a glance
Any who drove one had to be rolling in dough
Because they cost eight thousand bucks or so
In those luxury cars, nothing manual was done
Automatic windows, antenna and trunk were fun
Low gas mileage was simply no concern at all
At a six-dollar fill-up the wealthy didn’t squall
A Cadillac demonstrated one’s status in life
That he had risen above all the ordinary strife
Of course, Cadillac on the market does remain
Now the truly wealthy would laugh with disdain
Because what was once the finest car in the city
Is now only ordinary—and isn’t that such a pity
