Really what is this????

When

 I am like buttered toast
Where sometimes I get extra butter
The contest I offer
Seems to be the deciding factor. 

If I don't run a contest, 
I have to do at least 30 comments
To get just one comment back
Sometimes this I just can't hack

I have a few other poets
Who drop by to say hello
Rarely do I get soupmail
Unless a contest I throw

Or
 
Maybe if I see a mistake
Another poet has made
And I use  soupmail just
To let them know

So 

Do you have a few soup
Friends that you visit
Regularly? If so, be
Appreciative of their
Faithfulness then just say so

Please

Return a comment 
When someone comments on 
Your lines
It is easy to do just 
Give your mouse a click 
On their name and it will take you there

Also

Be kind, be pleasant
Be courteous
Be mannered


While

I am writing this
Write your lines so 
They make sense 
To the average person

Don't write

psychedelic shards sliced 
residual purple

I ask you, what does that mean? 

That might mean more to you than some of the penning done on here. 
I also know that this probably isn't free verse but some poor prose, but I felt like it needed to be said from my point of view.

I might get some criticism and some harsh remarks but at least I've said what I have been thinking and it comes from my heart.

Andrea Dietrich July 18, 2026 at 5:17 PM Finally seeing this poem of yours. I like its authentic feel. I too have seen things going downhill here insofar as commenting goes, especially so. I like plain spoken poetry and not puzzles to figure out. But I have friends who told me they prefer ambiguous poetry or things like puzzles. Whatever floats their boats I guess. I think there are at least some of us here who think as you do

Valsa George July 13, 2026 at 7:36 PM I agree with you that if a poet comments on one of our poems, it is common courtesy to comment back. I always do that. When l am busy, l may not do it immediately, but l see that no comment goes unresponsive. About style, each one has a unique style. We can't say, if one writes metaphoric poetry, it is bad. Most of us do not know how to write like that. My poems are quite simple and straight. I might be odd one out and maybe I will understand it better later. Most of all, I admire that you reached out, your courage ,and well done as well. I soup when I have questions about the contests or for thank you's vice versa from others. I comment when a poet comments on mine, its common courtesy, after all we are a community. I love PS, and wish you plenty of reviews, Sara. LOL, so people are putting line after line like that into a poem which is impossible to read and not understandable. I do enjoy soup and have for a very long time probably 12 years now. I do try to be supportive of a person's endeavor to write, learn and grow by being on here. Thank you for being one who is supportive of me in all ways. Sara K.

I can't be on very long at the time because I can't sit in my desk chair for very long, so I am on and off during the day. I do try to comment back to those who read a poem that I have written because I think that is courteous. I think you try to do that as well. We can only do so many of those in a day, so I understand that part. Sara K.

We all miss some of the old members who have passed, and I am closer to deaths door than I have been in the past. Sara K.

So many of the older members who were faithful to comment have passed, I believe maybe as a results of COVID or the aftermath. Sara Kendrick July 11, 2026 at 5:34 AM Nette, I used to try to comment on a newcomer's work when I saw a new person's work, but I don't have my laptop anymore and I can't sit at this stationary desk so much because of swelling in my feet and ankles from veinous insufficiency which causes me a whole lot of pain.
