What We Almost Forgot
After a cool damp and grey morning
Then warmth rose with the afternoon sun
The peanuts lay on the fence where squirrels sit
Along with one large blue black crow staring at the window
Blue jays flew by while large white clouds hung in the sky
Dogs bark and jump into the bed
Breakfast for the dogs and chai for me
Newspapers and music while sirens blare in the street
Books and movies, parks, library and theaters opening
It’s going to take awhile to return to the streets and cities
Something similar but not the same not exactly
Time to reconnect recollect and open up roads
Times to meet again make the world a better place and time to be
To remember much of mankind’s struggles
Lucky we live where we can be aware and awake
To work again together toward saving what we almost
Lost our lives, democracy and our humanity.
