What Little Girls Are Made Of

What Little Girls are Made of When did you learn you’re not good enough? Was it when you were a girl trying to figure out stuff? All you wanted to be was daddy’s little girl Tea cup party pretty a princess with curls “Sugar and spice, everything nice” but that’s not what you were made of Fiery adventurous, a wonder born of thunder Searching empty eyes to find his love If only he could have seen How your hopeful heart had pleaded A world of “Sunshine and rainbows” Was all that you needed Your life didn’t consist of “Tea parties, laces and baby doll faces” Some might tell you you’re searching for love in the wrong places But the need you feel is beyond the unspoken What happened back then Has left you feeling broken So see through different eyes a princess a queen A girl kind and generous who wants to be seen You have beauty and strength “That’s what little girls are made of” When you find belief in yourself you’ll be a step away from true love! Dedicated to a friend, who I hope will discover her amazing. For me I did not learn to love myself until I felt the love of my Heavenly Father. It seems my earthly one wasn’t up for the task. Note: lines in quotes are from the poem “Sugar and Spice” author: unknown

Beautiful. The search for love will either redeem us or destroy us. I'm discouraged. Thought I'd get back into the swing of things here. I was told I had no summer courses to teach and just today I got an email asking me to teach. I'm rushing trying to prepare. Hugs

Such a beautiful dedication to your friend. Little girls are made of sugar and spice, with tender hearts. However, strength and wisdom linger deep within as well. Your thoughts touch me deeply. ~ Brandy

A sweet write for your friend Richard. I do hope she gains strength from it. Young people have it so tough nowadays, and low self esteem certainly does not help. I am so sorry to hear about your own experience. It certainly made you the strong man you are today.....Maria hugs

Richard, I hope you have shown this poem to the lady who doesn't acknowledge her own self worth. It is sad when children have to struggle for love from their fathers. Your poem is uplifting when you speak of seeing "through different eyes." Perhaps she will grow more confidant when she reads your words. A wonderful poem, Richard! Love, Carolyn

Inspiring words for your friend :)...being a tomboy all my life, I especially like the last verse. My father died when I was 3, so God My Father is the only father I've had...and he is the Best Father! :)

He is indeed. Girls who were Tom Boys often become strong amazing, independent women. I expect that has been the case with you. Thanks for such a great comment.

Only when we find true love can we understand ourselves and our place in the Universe . A church sign today read " we can give without love but we can't love without giving " This is such a truism. I am glad you found your Father-hero. Thank you for sharing Richard

This is really good poetry. To write this for a friend who really needs to know this about herself. I did not have a father in the way lots of girls do, yet I hear this is quite the norm these days, to have an absent father figure. However, thanks to my mom and others in my life, I grew up confident and happy. I'm glad you found love for yourself. You deserve to.

WoW! Richard, This is such a powerful and heartfelt verse. I for one can relate to most of your lines. It can be hard to accept and embrace love when you've never experienced it. I agree, one must find that authentic love within, although that alone may be a hard task. Excellent job and straight in to my favs:-) Alexis

I just love this response, thoughtful and sensitive. I think many people are searching outside for what can only be discovered within.
