What Do You Hear

Tell me what do you hear When the Christ simply says He desires us to “love everyone?” Tell me isn’t it clear, Is it off of the rez, That this battle’s not easily won? Do you know His intent When He washed other’s feet Do you think His desire was fame? If not, what then was meant, To so humbly greet, The disciples who worshiped His name? Was it linked to His call To be servant, not king, This our path to find honor with God? For the greatest of all Needs no kiss of His ring Or angelic choir singing His laud! What is there about Grace, What on earth could it mean, That the blood of Christ cancels out sin? It's just nuts on its face, Kill His Son and we're clean, God in pain brings salvation to men? Can’t you see it’s not us, Not our will that’s prevailed, But God’s love that’s the real actor here, Self-worth under the bus, Our apostasy nailed, And our sin has long sailed from the pier? Man’s salvation is gift, Never something we earn, Might be best to come down from your tree? Your false pride is adrift, Your face starting to burn, Though you feel yourself bending a knee. But your fear of the Lord Is just death of the wild, Not maturity dressed in respect. To be fully aboard You need love of a child, Not a life that is too circumspect. If you see Jesus’ face When you look on the poor, Praise the Lord; You are starting to grow! With no sin to erase Christ will open the door, When the wedding feast comes, you will know!
