What a Spectacle

he took the paintball on one sunken cheek it hurt to be lopsided but the anger subsided the umpire declared the shot out of bounds but the capsule brought colour to his face dripped happily towards his prominent jugular he was more alive than ever after all so he asked for a video replay to correct the verdict lost his appeal because at times life is full of injustice convinced himself that the pigment was of the wrong mix when he tried his luck at billiard his opponent shouted ´you fool´ ‘this is pool now you are snookered’ relentless though he aimed one for the eight after all it resembled the infinity symbol when one changes angles and perspective one the rebound of his last attempt the cue hit the eye for the globe it was brought blind sight and images of retinal glare he did not give up and tried darts surely the little arrows would align his centre twenty-twenty vision and a triple alliance a trinity of feathered illusions in full flight projectile flechettes on a loose trajectory blunt as rusty dagger he missed the target readjusted his focus and moved closer in vain disqualified he questioned the vile referee he tried his luck at juggling practiced sword swallowing and other contortions laughed at and derided for changing his ante and game but he never gave up he clung to a circus trapeze entered a mirror cabinet and bought a lottery ticket ten out of ten for trying but the glass shattered for lack of a safety contraption a double bottom opened and swallowed the trainee at the University of Life when he attempted solitaire with a pack of lies ground dice into curve balls called for more fortune shuffled closer to comprehension and meaning he reached for the destiny of Tarot Cards but there was a poker joker among the fold and the ace disappeared down his sleeve eventually he decided that gamesmanship and gambling was not for him and decided on face value and change of direction an requested a new pair of spectacles
