What a Dummy
They were all in a line, mannequins in a row,
nothing to say or do, nowhere to go,
one look could say a thousand things,
without the curve a knowing eyebrow brings.
They came to dress me until I was best as I could be,
people gazed at me thro' the window pane,
and wanted everything that I displayed,
they had to have, no matter what they paid.
There was a ripple of applause from plastic joints,
at last it was proved that I had my good points,
I savoured the moment till I had to change,
they had to get ready for the spring range.
All of my friends still stared rather wide-eyed,
they wanted to but there were no tears when they cried.
