Were this world not such a lure

If this world were not such a sweet lure Pulling me in like earth’s gravity, And for long-- many a life’s allure, To get trapped being man’s destiny, And this life being a virtual dream In a world ever so elusive, If dreams dreamt were not real as we deem, Who’d even dream in this world to live? Yet, in this life’s ‘river of return’, Though dreams dreamt turn to be all so vain, Man returns-- I know not what to earn-- As if by the very return train. And God casts His loaded dice again, Sure, not a single dice falls in vain. ___________________________ Sonnet | 02.03.08, revised July 2024 | life, Maya Port’s note: That these conflicts and contradictions of world called Maya continue to confuse an average seeker is not in doubt. What is not clear is how he reacts to them. Let the wise say, this world is vain. Vain maybe for man, not for Destiny. The sonnet is set in anapaest meter.
