Welcome To Society

Welcome to society Where you feel worthless and small. You are judged for being ordinary And judged for being different Than everyone else. If I have the same shoes as someone I’m a copier If I'm wearing something others think is ugly, Apparently, I want attention and I’m asking to Be made fun of. Either you are worshipped for being pretty And ignored otherwise. Those girls with waxed eyebrows And crop top shirts are “popular” And people like me are left in the dust And are prey to the higher social group. It’s people like that who are the hunters And people like me are the prey. Its people like that who made me drag knives across my thighs And my wrists and anywhere I could to cope with the pain. It’s people like that who made me take pills and tie a noose Although that didn't work. It’s people like that who made me feel like I am not important. Long sleeves and bloody bandages, and tears. Pools and pools of tears and piles of blades Just because people think poorly about me. But you aren't ugly, Society is. It is the twenty-first century. Popularity is based on follows and likes And number of comments on selfies On social media. There are the girls with over one hundred Heart-eyed comments and four hundred likes. Then there’s me, with little followers and No good selfies to post Because when you’re called ugly, It’s hard not to believe it. Words can escape so easily with Little thoughts on how they can hurt. You should not be judged on how you do your hair Or what clothes you wear Or how “on point” your makeup is. I’m sorry I can't afford Gucci and My eyeliner wing isn’t perfect. Cultural standards of beauty are destroying our world. You’ll feel worthless based on others opinions About you. Not everyone is born with a photogenic smile Or a perfectly symmetrical face. I’m sorry I’m not aesthetically pleasing in your opinion But what you say affects people. You aren’t ugly, Society is. It is 2017. And equality is still an issue If your LGBTQ+ or Your ethnicity is different Or you are a woman You are treated terribly. Why shouldn’t I get paid the same as some dude who Does the same job? Why should how I’m treated be based On what's in my pants? Liking the same sex is not a sin Love is love, no matter what they say Be who you are, no matter what others feel about it. Why should it matter if I go from a girl to a boy, Or I’m attracted to the same gender Or if I’m attracted to no one at all Why should anyone get a say on how I feel. Pansexual, transgender, aero or ace Why should it matter to other people Who I choose to love? Shouldn’t being happy matter more? People don’t understand equality Or how to treat each other Like human beings. We are a poverty, war stricken society. Others starve, while others selfishly eat more than needed. “Why aren’t you eating?” they ask It is because I can’t bring myself to eat more than necessary while Others are starving to death We are a society of hate and resentment. Being a victim of such hate Can make you feel small. Like the entire world is closing in on you And you are going to be crushed to pieces. But you aren't ugly, Society is.

Hey I would just like know if its okay that i'm using your poem for one of my homework assignments. Don't worry I'm not taking your poem and making taking it and saying it's my own. I'm going to be giving you full credit of the poem. Also you're aloud to use any pronouns to respond to this, because I'm a genderfluid, pansexual. I would like to thank you for writing this poem, reason one is because this poem tells a lot of truth about the human social system, and where people are ranked on it.
