We Will Write - We Poets Bold

I fear the coming insurrection
demands poetical perfection
as if the Bard had never crumpled
a twisted thought slightly rumpled

Nor Mya in a fit of peak
give her best a little tweak
for often in our readings proof
It reads like a poetic spoof.

Alas the perfect all profess
to writing more while writing less
relying on a workman’s hammer
driving in the rules of grammar

and yet the ink has never strayed
it’s nature motionless and staid
it flows the same across the page
expressing words of love or rage.

So we will write, we poets bold
and not do much that we are told
for it’s our nature that we fight
the coming of “that cold dark night”.

I love "relying on a workman's hammer/driving in the rules of grammar". Sometimes I think "we poets bold" tend to forget that there are "mechanics" associated with writing. I like the theme and the tenor of this piece, John.

A good one, John, especially pointing out the independence of the creative spirit. I really liked this.
