Watching Fish

WATCHING FISH

We pause at the glass and look in
They come sidling down to look at us
Solemn peaceful beauties
Gliding graceful in their thick liquid world
Big-eyed innocence, bubbles,
Children of the deep
Crowd down at the end to see us
They wave their fins and hover
Looking out with rapture of a lover
Staring unselfconsciously with
Mouths miming murmered mumbles

Syd, psychological studies have shown that people's blood pressure actually drops when watching fish in an aquarium. Guess their "big-eyed innocence" can put us in a trance. Love the poem, especially the alliteration in that incredible last line. Merry Christmas, Carolyn
