Wants Vs Needs

What we most desire is not always best for us Deep down inside our gut I think we know this, But it seldom stops the gnaw of our yearnings Even though our brain surely puts us on notice. As children we learned about need and want, What we most desire is not always best for us Our needs pale, while our desires will taunt Battling between them makes for an awful fuss. In this conflict, age is not necessarily a plus, As adults we still allow want to trample need, What we most desire is not always best for us In spite of how much our inner self will plead. We must always move forward with insight Failure to make right decisions makes a muss, And, I believe most of us know what is right What we most desire is not always best for us.

This is my urgent hope "We must always move forward with insight" for the nation.

It would be nice for most Americans to read your perspective on responsible thinking and acting on such wants and needs. Surely they have not follow your valued advice because so many are in Credit Card debt that is alarming. In theory it is the right way to approach and control one's wants as opposed to need, but I think the reality of this financial restraint advice is people do not follow their good sense but mostly buy as an impulsive behavior. It will catch up to them later. Enjoyed...

It does, indeed. The amount of credit card debt and the instability it causes for individuals and families is staggering.

As for me: I say what I mean and I mean what I say. If I want it, Jiminy Cricket tsk-tsks me: 'No way.' Oh, well.

I suppose that puts the kabash on that, eh? (chuckling)

As imperfect humans, we tend to always want more than we need. Avarice is a sinful trait.

I think that is true, Jenna. And, we also want more and more and more, often ignoring our needs. Thanks for your thoughtful comment.

Hello Milton, there is a difference between want and need. I buy what I need not what I want. When I don't need anything, I buy what I want. That does not happen too often. Enjoy your evening my friend.

Milt, wonderful writing and very inspiring, I have let go of I need, I want, and must have because it is not always best for me, and as a result I am a much more tranquil person, but it is not easy to do, peace and tranquility

It's not easy to do, but a very admirable thing to do, Constance. Much luck to you!

We just talked about this at night - our Father gives us good and perfect gifts, not a stone with we ask for bread, not a snake when we ask for a fish, but also, not always the desires of our heart, unless those desires are aligned with His. And that is hard to know. Enjoyed this, Milt!
