Want

What men want
Pretty, dangerous things
Things that smell sweet
Things that bite
Things that quicken their hearts
They think that’s what they want
Until they don’t
Until they lose what they have
Until they realize
Realize that appetites are dangerous
Appetites devour
Appetites destroy

What men want
Is to go home again
to be with a woman who loves them
A woman who respects them
A woman who adores them

But she no longer exists
She has seen his treachery
She sees what he lacks
She now despises him
What women want
He no longer possesses
Men search for heaven
While making their way to hell
Her fury aids him on his way.

Belated Kudos Richard.. Men and women have to be real. Find one like that? You both create heaven on earth. Pangie xx In my experience, have met outstanding men. Who don't make relationships the primary source of their lives. That's boring. They live for bigger purposes. And are masters and mentors. Leaders in life.~~~~ Pangie xx

A most interesting response. I am for a balance of passions between career recreation and our love relationships. Success is hollow without the last part of the equation.

Don't get much time these days for poetry and the great "Soup"...but while I am here thought I would pop round and see what you are up to, Richard. And what's this I see? POTD -- congratulations! As always with your writing, reinforced with that strong moral-fibre and goodly virtue: words of wisdom indeed! My very best regards, Richard -- cheers! :) john

This poem is a gem it is good that men read this and absorb it, not that women don't make the same mistakes. An acquaintance of ours made the stupid mistake of having an affair with the same man twice, her husband packed her suitcases and asked her to leave their home.Congratulations Richard on this brilliant poem and POTD and top win with John. Hugs and blessings Jennifer.

Is life a game? i sometimes wonder, Earth a giant chess board, where democracy has many moves, too many. As usual your poetry delves into such truths, where you bring forth to the surface the way it is, in what is your unique way Richard, congrats on POTD.

Me too David. Both sexes have their weaknesses. The numbers of people who are unfaithful is however much higher than what most people think. I think social media makes people dissatisfied with their relationships and creates false expectations.

"What does a man want, a woman who respects him" I completely agree. However, it works both ways. *Respect* is a two way street. This is powerful and bold, filled with so much truth. Congratulations Richard, on Poem of the Day. Hugs, Brandy
