Wake Up Humanity Wake Up

What a shame, a crying shame, Forests, serene, so tame, Have to burn till crusty and dry As they breath their last sigh! Proud tall old trees that suffer, And weep as flames Crackle below, creeping Higher and higher, Engulfing them in an Ocean of fire! They shed tears not for them-selves But mostly for humanity, What will you do without us They cry, This Planet is doomed, Look out, or Earth will Wither and die. Flames can be seen from afar As branches turn their faces Away from their pain and a Dripping flow of Burning leaves, Whisper their story, Of eons, of glory. Heat waves unbearably hot, Have fueled these Furious forest fires No means of protecting Their beauteous facade, Alas, trees sway This way and that, Can bear no more, succumb To a surrounding inferno, Unbearable to see them so, As like dominoes they fall, And let out a dying call, Humanity hear us now, Come together and stop This carnage, For it is for you we cry, As we burn and slowly fry! All this was predicted Millenniums ago, Don’t forgo The wise sayings of Yester year, We feel and see your fear, Take a step back, Renew your view, Don’t just look ahead, We learn from the old And the new, Take heed, we Are speaking to you! Melting glaciers at the poles Hurricanes, tornadoes Earthquakes, unrest and killing Amidst a Covid Pandemic, Always remember We need each other, Worldwide organizations Have put Planet Earth On red alert, A humanitarian disaster By coming together, We must avert.

So sad, with controlled burns they grow back, but you can't replace the wildlife of an uncontrolled one, nor can you replace with those who lose their property have lost to flame; so many memories, very sad.

Hi Jennifer, Your poem is so on point; we need to take better care of our planet. All of creation of crying out! The earth is such a beautiful gift, and we have taking it for granted. You have such a “ humanitarian’s heart” it's evident in several of your poems. You are such a blessing and positive light within this Soup community. Have a wonderful day my friend from across the pond:-) Alexis

Dear Jennifer, Your words speak truth. The trees crying and falling like dominos brings tears to my eyes. The time is now. We must unite. Thank you for penning such a strong call to humanity. I too have recently penned a poem with a similar theme and am working on a series of paintings to go along with it. Back to nature . Back to the days when all was green. Sending all good wishes to you, Susan :)

Natural disaster after natural disaster! like the earth has had enough of human pests!! California is my favourite place but one that burns frequently too!! Yet, they deny the impact of human behaviour on climate! well done on highlighting this problem!!

It is very hard to understand how anyone could not see saving our planet as top priority. But it's so encouraging that there are people like you who do, Jennifer. Your poem captures the urgency of taking better care of our beautiful planet. Blessings and hugs, Evelyn

Indeed it is such a shame that we have come to this tragic situation! Many people just do not seem to care, but others do, and it is those who care who are our only hope. World leaders have to set an example and work hand in hand with NGOs and other organizations. ~ Warm regards & hugs my friend. // paul

I wonder if there is a purpose to all of this, Jennifer. Is the planet going through a stage of transformation?, Or is it us, as your title suggests, or maybe both? Although, the poetry is superb, and this one should be aired everywhere....Thanks for the comment on 'stroke-a-back' yes a very old game like 'Bucks up' I don't think hardly anyone today would remember, The games may have been common around the dales, but the villages seem to have there own unique names for them...

Brilliant poem. One might also mention the destruction of trees by mankind especially in the equatorial places. A meaningful poem. Hugs.

Yes, so many of our disasters can be traced directly to MANKIND. The warnings in Genesis have long been forgotten. Jennifer, your lovely, expressive poem is a meaningful blend of literal and figurative language! Janice

I think you sum it all up well. We see the warning, but it is not convenient to deal with it because that would require some fundamental changes to the way we live and what is important to us. Hard to see this all ending in peace and harmony.

Your poem is a call for action to save us from ourselves. Much inspiration in this ode to earth, Jennifer. The last stanza sums it up in your superb poem, my friend.

- Humans are pushing the limits of what this planet can withstand, dear Jenny ... we are seeing extreme effects ... it's time to take a serious turn in our way of thinking ... maybe it's too late ... we only have one earth - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Sadly over the years warnings have been ignored and laughed at. No ones laughing now. Tom
