Wake Up and Smell the Ambivalence

What a beautiful cup of coffee
I needed it so damn bad
Boy it hit the spot
but didn’t stop the crave I had

Now I want another one
even more than the first
I’m a petty man alas,
with ambivalence I burst

If I give in to my desire
the price could be greater
I’m a petty man indeed
and may well pay for it later

Bottoms up!

Not as good as the first
to hell with these bad calls
now I’m all on edge
and climbing up the walls

But I’ve learnt a valuable lesson
from this hole I dug
In future skip the cup
go for one big bastard mug!

I’ve certainly got a twisted sense of humour I think its in protest for all the brainwashing crap we went through in our recent past, Fr Ted was payback too, cheers David

Never tried hot apple cider Pangie, though I’ve drank cool cider on warm days, yes it’s good, but I’d walk over hot coals barefoot to get my morning fix of cafe latte, cheers David

LOL. Between the coffee and the late-night pizza, your stomach is wondering what the heck you're doing! Welcome as a life time member David! Linda

Thanks Linda, I do indeed put my stomach through the grinder, yeah I took the plunge before Christmas and got myself a membership, it’s much sweeter with no adds popping up, cheers David

Just one works best for me these days, too, David. Although, I must admit, I tend to make it pretty strong. A very enjoyable read.

Ah there’s the rub Jim, too strong I don’t enjoy it, too little is unfulfilling, so unfortunately it’s my final line every time, but it is great stuff, cheers David

How I yearn for a cup of coffee! Doctor's orders, I'm afraid. Especially since I used to help myself to the small concentrated cup.

Oh no! you were really on the hard stuff lol, I really should cut down myself, but like most men I’ll wait til the Dr orders me, or it’s too late, cheers David

i enjoyed this, david! i'd prefer two smaller cups so the coffee stays as hot as it can possibly be, but to each his own. your poem made me smile, though...

Heya Ilene I can see the method in your madness, but I don’t mind the temperature waning, so long as it starts out good, anyway I can down the beautiful stuff faster as it cools Lol, cheers David

David, enjoying my morn coffee as i read this. Love your conversational tone! Definitely looking for more! The “strong” words fit with an ease, at least for me, but then my own mind & mouth still need redeeming (as my soul& husband keep pointing out) as i suffer from acute former hippie-itis. IMHO obcious you technique & approach is studied, edited with a love for our Art & for language; inspiring. May the muse be with you! 8-) sally

Oh never worry about (strong wording) Sally, it’s all part of our life and language, indeed a well timed and chosen swear word can make all the difference to enhance our technique and poems, that first coffee is always the best, so why not make it a large one, (acute former Hippie-itis) gotta love it, cheers David,

There could be addictions that would drive you up the walls a lot worse than coffee. If you only have one cup, despite its size, is it still called addiction? LOL I like the smell of coffee more than its taste.

Indeed that is the question Jenna, one beautiful cup is never enough, but one XL mug, might just do the trick, all in the mind perhaps, but the moment definitely lasts longer lol, cheers David
