Waitress, Waitress

Ah~ a pleasurable job I thought! Loved serving people and making them happy. For I knew as a customer, what it was like to have service that was truly crappy. I relished customers smiles when their water glasses, I filled! And their satisfied grins, when coffee cups were kept refreshed. Don't ask me why, but it gave me a thrill! I have worked in pancake houses, Japanese Yakitori places, donut shops, a Howard Johnson's and two Italian ones, too. Quite honestly, in retrospect, I was happier in restaurants than any, structured, educational zoo. The best part I saved for last! Coming home, taking off my shoes, so very exhausted but with bulging pockets holding huge amounts of cash. Then counting all the change and the bills! You see, I honestly felt like a millionaire. Indeed, each night was a thrill. I felt I was the Queen of the Hill! September 15, 2019 12:15 am

Hello Panagiota … if you enjoy the company of people and are rewarded for it, I believe you have the social world at your feet. You just never know who you are going to meet - thank you Panagiota - Lindsay

Waitressing was only a beginning. I then moved on to Being an improvisational actress at Second City, I met many who you now see in movies. Then I went on to doing stand up comedy in Chicago and SF, this was 1970 and foul mouth women comics were not allowed, in fact, the males were not either! Today comedy is vastly gross. I stopped doing stand up in San Francisco in 1976, comedians were getting drugged up, snorting coke or blowing weed. I quit then. I got to be an extra in a movie. Fun. Love the performing arts...Panagiota

I was never a waiter, unfortunately, though I was an assistant restaurant manager working my way through school, so I had to learn and do all the positions, and fill in as needed... and I know exactly whereof you speak. Those were, indeed, exhilarating days. Thanks for the trip back in time! :) gw

Glad you know what I mean! Service is exhilarating work. Granted, no degree is needed for being a waitress or waiter. I already had my degree when I did this in addition to teaching. Pleasing customers was satisfying,)))Panagiota xx

Good Morning Ms.Sunshine! I see you and I have much in common. I forgot to mention, the free lunch or dinner with each shift. Delicious! That donut shop was my first job in San Francisco. I was so happy to be in that city, find a job and ride the Muni bus to work. It was heaven for me. That was in 1975 when SF was sane.-)) blessings, Panagiota Panagiota
