Voyage Through Struggling Waters

River, where are you taking me? What has you running away so quickly and fervently that even the strongest man might be swept under your currents, lost in your overwhelming rapids? Where is it that we are going—a new world without drought and famine; where the sky is always blue and the grass is always greener than what we leave behind? If this is the place you rush to, then carry on your way and I’ll wait patiently on my always teetering canoe. Lead me; for I know there are many paths to choose, but you will follow the right one. Lead me away from a dark past, an uncertain future, and a weary present so that I may, too, find serenity. I will hold on even as your crashing waves strike my canoe and drag me under the water again and again, and I gasp for air every time, barely clinging to the bow as chilled water drips down my brow and my bones rattle in protest; exhausted, but reluctant to let go. And I hold on. River, hold on to me as I hold on to you and together we will voyage to our journey’s end, facing the rebellious wind and raging clouds as one individual under an eternal sun that warms your waters. Lead me, River, and I will follow, scraping the riverbed, but never far behind.
