Voices
Do you hear those faint voices?
Coming from beneath the earth,
Begging for a resurrection,
They are voices of assassinated warriors,
That fought for our freedom.
Do you hear those voices?
In the outskirts of the town?
They are voices of peasant farmers,
Protesting over lack of payment,
The big cats mauled their produce.
Do you hear those voices?
Coming from those thatched houses?
They are voices of a girl child,
Struggling to be set free,
Their fathers forcefully molest them sexually.
Do you hear those voices?
Coming within the streets?
They are voices of poor hawkers,
Trying to seek their rights,
The elephants keep haunting their green pockets.
Do you hear those voices?
So faint and vanishing,
They are widows crying,
Crying to get justice,
They forgot justice is nowadays paid for.
Do you hear those voices?
Voices in our dark villages,
They are unheard voices of uncared orphans,
They need education, food, shelter…
They are slaves of our century.
Do you hear those voices?
Voices of a given up soul,
They are voices of jobless youths,
Thrown out by tribalism and nepotism,
The hyenas will never give them a bone to chew.
Voices are everywhere,
Some are stealth,
Some are faint,
But does anyone hear?
We are all deaf and dumb,
We have let our nation to bleed,
And the sores are enlarging and incurable.
And the voices keep on…
And our deafness looms…
