Vision of the World

Behold, I saw the vision of the world
Smoldering in the ashes of hate
utterly consumed with terrors
Beaten, ragged and worn
blood touching blood
The gleam of liberty’s lamp dimmed
by the smoke of her burning
wail over her; wail and mourn
For the smoke of her torment
hath reached to heaven

 I turned and looked again,
I saw the vision of the world
Hope birthed in the heart of man
Strength of an indomitable will
Faith’s torch glowing bright
Freedoms light burning warm

Lori, this vision is accorded with ovation less trust for birth of its second half. I luv the power behind the vision. Cheers.

That second vision is much more preferable! Let us hope the first one is simply in hindsight. I like the contrasting nature you set up in the poem and the imagery was very poignant. Thanks for sharing.

This grabbed me and sucked me in as soon as I started reading, Lori! Love the biblical language (very appropriate!) I'm on my 3rd read as I write. What a knock-out hope filled ending too - Tim

Capturing the vision and aiding in perception for new action and values. Sometimes the new paradigm arises on the ashes of the old. The old paradigm must die so that its power no longer holds, and people can be free and whole. Very well spoken in this piece!
