Video Game in My Eyes

I told my eye doctor about my blurred sight
And that it had caused me somewhat of a fright.

It only took a minute for him to surmise
The problem within each of my eyes.

He said, “There is a cure. No need for alarm.
Your eyes can be fixed without any harm."

He said that since removing my cataracts two years ago
Scar tissue grew in secret and became my eyes’ foe.

The dastardly tissue blocked my ability to see
And, after his words, I was somewhat relieved.

My eyes were numbed on the day of the cure
While I was waiting in line for my turn.

A laser would shoot beams of light to remove
The scar tissue and my sight would improve.

The first sharp pop was startling at first
But then I realized it was a healing burst.

The doctor seemed to have smiling bursts of his own
And smiled each time a crisp zap seemed to explode.

While he zapped the scar tissue villain, I felt no pain.
Did his imagination turn this into a video game?

So interesting how it backfired on you. My husband just had his done. The second eye was a lot easier for him. Did you take all the eye drops afterward?

Hi Andrea, I did take all of the eye drops. The optometrist told me that the growth of scar tissue is rare, but it happens. Thankfully, there hasn't been a problem since the laser treatment. Thank you for your interest! Hope all is well in your world. - Gail

Does cause one to wonder are the doctors of today the ones who could master video games. LOL..My husband and I both had to have the laser treatment on our eyes after having cataract surgery. I developed glaucoma from the scar tissue causing pressure and now have to have medicine every day to keep it under control. Great that you have that behind you and are now blessed with great vision again. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara K

Hi Sara, Thanks for stopping by! I am sorry to hear that the results have not been as good for you. I am glad to hear that there is some medicine you can take to keep the glaucoma under control. I still need reading glasses at this time, but nothing else. (For now, at least) - Wishing you a safe and very happy New Year! Gail

Your poem not only captures the physical aspect of the healing process but also conveys the emotional journey of facing a medical challenge. The combination of wit, optimism, and a touch of whimsy makes this poem a delightful read. It leaves the reader with a sense of gratitude for the medical intervention and a smile for the unique perspective you bring to the experience.
