Vespers

Oh, the Vespers!
The day is coming to a close.
And the Scriptures!
Can words our sins dispose?
And the Evening,
With my head so lowly bowed.
Those Bible Proverbs.
Will they clear away the cloud?

I've been knocking all night long,
But the Church's door is closed.
I look through a crystal window.
I see the followers reposed.
I knock twice on the door,
Hoping for an invitation.
I only hear voices singing-
Singing "Jesus is Salvation".

I am knocking.
Please let a sinner in.
I knock louder,
And start prayful meditation.
The door opens,
But I see no people there.
Only a Bible on a pulpit
And the message becomes clear.

Hilda, I added a reply to your question below, in the comment below. Hugs to you <3 Also, I want you to know, I absolutely understand where you are coming from, as I have been there. I wrote my own experience with those questions and the subsequent events in my poem 'Child of the King' if you would like to read it, I don't have rows and rows of poems posted, so its easy. It is on my first page, which now is on my 3rd or 4th row. I think the 22nd poem I wrote on here, so, 22nd from the bottom of the page. It was from when I was newly on PS. Sending you hugs and hoping that your day is blessed :) <3 Actually, I went ahead and reposted it today, so is easier to see.

Thank you for adding this. My reluctance for suffering goes deep. I've seen a lot of it. I'll read "Child of the King".

Wow, this is a unique Christian poem. It makes you think. That first verse, what a calling. Second verse begins with the knocking, an action..I can almost see the person looking in the window..the followers reposed..is this in lackadaisical pose? Still, I wonder, was it too late…even for the church itself…hmm…great poem!

This poem was inspired by summer Bible camp for teens. It was hot; we were in a room near a lake, and I made the mistake of looking longingly out the window. After being berated by counselor, all I could think was "God makes lakes".

I look to Christ alone, and not so much through the windows and doors of places who do not open to those who Jesus died for. He will open His ways to you, as He did utterly lost and dying sinful me. He loves sinners so much, He took the nails in His hands and feet to usher us into His love and hope, and when we ask Him to, He washes us of our sin. He is the Door, so, walk on in sweet sinner, Jesus loves you!! Your poem resonates with far too many, but, that is not with the Lord Jesus. Hugs to you, thank you for writing this powerful poem! Aw, Hilda, He did it because He loved us so much, He actually had to, for those who will accept His atoning sacrifice which He did for all who accept. We don't know the horrors of the afterlife that He wanted to save us from, we are not there yet, but for certain, He felt it worthy to go through the horror on our behalf. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed three times to the Father asking if that death He would suffer so horrendously could be avoided, if there was any other way for us to be saved, He would have preferred it. Obviously, there was no other way. Reading in Matthew 26:36-44 highlights exactly what He was going through. If you don't have a Bible you can use a free one called Bible Gateway, you can copy and paste these scripture verses into their search and read what He went through. After reading, I hope that you see He thought it enough of a very good reason, worthy enough to go through on our behalf.

Thank you for reading and commenting. To tell you the truth, I wrote this from the heart but I, like many others, have trouble understanding why Jesus died for our sins. I'm o.k. with a sin penalty of my own if I err.

This sounds like a mystical experience. If we knock and knock, the door will be open. God won't turn His back on any sinner, but will receive him/her with warm embrace. Powerful poem.

Maybe they only let sinners into church? Those lock-out perhaps not so bad? Who knows, your poetry is a sanctuary and place where you can always visit with God. Keep writing so heavenly!

Dear Hilda,I like how the poem shifts from seeking people to finding only the Word, as if the answer was waiting in plain sight. Your clarity at the end lands with more weight than any welcome could. Amen! Blessings, Daniel

Thank you. You are right on the meaning but the meaning was hidden from even me, until you explained it. Sometimes, I wonder if I have a writing spirit that deserves the credit.
