Velveteen Rags

Curled tight, in a warm and trusting Ball of brown fur and love. Should I ever see her heart, I would expect it to be far too big. So often a chin sweetly rested upon My conscience, of her innocence. I cannot bear the thought, Of those dark days that left their scars. Her playful and persistent nosing Begging for a smile and a rub. She gave me the priceless opportunity, To save at least one soft and true thing from this world. Should the bough break and all else fail, The feel of velveteen rags will be my final request. *Written in honor of our dog Daisy, the most loving creature I have encountered, who I had the privilege of rescuing from a local animal shelter.
