Va Pensieri - Go, Thoughts

This was written while working on an oil Rig. Tempestuous seas built up and blustery winds buffetted at the vessel, while inside all was warm and tranquil. Evening turned to night and the creaking of the moving vessel was evident and lent itself, within my mind, to the rythm and flow of Verdi's Slave chorus from his opera, "Nabuccho". It is not, of course... I stole the first words of the first line.... for my thoughts DID wander....
Va Pensieri
My solitude, which I prefer
Does not, like some, plunge to despair
But rather it does stimulate
My mind for thoughts to create.
Inside my room, alone again
For all the sounds does my ear strain:
The muffled purr from the a/c
The creaking bulkheads all round me.
Outside I watch a billowing cloud
Grow quietly dark as night does shroud
The blues and greens of the sea
And whitecaps dancing angrily.
In the chill cold night we roll and swell
Piched up and down and aside as well.
Like that cork in a bath we are tossed about
The waves slap our bows and, as though in a shout
Wakens us from our reverie
To let us know that we are still at sea.
To remind us too that we should bemoan
The fact that we're hers and hers alone.
But let the gulls skim the waves and the fish keep the sea
For it's among the clouds where my heart wants to be.
Away to the South and away from here
Away to those parts which my heart holds so dear.
Soft music plays alongside my ear
No staccato bursts, but slow and clear.
And as it soothes me to very soul
My mind and heart reach their goal.
No need for words from any other
For words right now, my peace would smother.
In this tranquil mood I write
Just as day dies and I say goodnight.
