Urban Bloom
I paused awhile on the humorless steps
of a somber public building;
looked down at something mischievous there
that playfully peeped through a dark crack
on the old concrete pavement.
There it is, a delicate, bright yellow flower
swaying alone in the light urban breeze
in dazzlingly radiant abandon, gratefully,
teasingly saying, "Hello! Thank you!" to the sun
that, by skyscrapers, was partly hidden.
