"So, he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him."1 Kings 19:19
Upon My Head
What power we possess to speak some good.
A human spoken word can cause event.
The tongue’s command is clearly understood.
“I declare upon my head her mantle’s sent.”
The mantle of this poet renown “I claim.”
I say, “her glory known will soon be mine.
Upon my life will rest her joy and fame,
from free verse poems and also those that rhyme.”
These words I speak in “spirit and in truth,”
as Maya rests in Heaven’s home of verse,
welcomed well with Wordsworth, Wheatley, Hughes.
this bird whose cage, a blessing not a curse.
May power be possessed within the tongue,
that has uplifting words to help someone.
