A white piece of paper lies on a blue table She looks at me out of the corner of her eye A flock of birds flies into the air

My overall impression is of peace. No strife or bad reasons for anything are indicated, and once the birds have flown, I picture everything returning to perfect calm.

What if the birds had had a big meal?

There is so much said in this short piece, kind of like they say, between the lines waits the meaning. I think I get this, because I know this feeling. That glance sets off a series of events, and even if there are no birds mingling outside the window, they are still there and you can see them. Nicely done Doug.

I guess it's all in how the reader perceives it and that is the cool thing about a poem like this one, a multitude of different meanings can spring to mind, depending on who is reading it. Mine was romantic (go figure), but I can also see the goodbye view a well now. Very cool.

Here, I think there is hidden meaning, but that the reader will first sense it, and then depend on their own individual visions to get the fuller reality. Hopelessly romantic? Probably. Maybe the paper is the woman saying goodbye, and she's checking the guy out to see how he reacts before she's out with the birds, free. One thing for sure, I hope the day never comes when the birds are not there.

Good morning, Chris. Thank you for the comments - there is a kind of magic there that I would not have gotten, and you get it more than most; it shines through in many of your poems. Now I'm thinking that perhaps Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle applies, i.e. originally saying that the more we know about the position of an object, the less we can know about its velocity, and vice-versa.

The Muse that look at you out of the corner of her eye managed to inspire you to write on the paper about the birds that fly dear, Dough! Excellently done! Welcome!
