Listen to poem:
I'm a poet And I don't know it My rhyme destroys My pen is poised To trickle out Some tale about A butterfly Or sunset sky As sweet as jam With rhythm slam Dunk in your tea My soliloquy I'm a poet Happy to show it So on your bike As I drop the mic You may have guessed If you passed the test As you peruse This lyrical muse That no comp will claim This shot at fame My Shakespearean blooper Hardly 'poetry super' When the quill is dry Or my muse is shy Or the peripatetic Pen pleads "pathetic" I turn in shame When love's words are lame Yet in hopeful reason This may be the season Of drought, no doubt It may be a good shout Though my lack I berate Truth is; seasons rotate To conclude, I am hopeful I can re-shape the doleful Convert all this stressin' I'm a poet. (no messin')

Love this and this resonates and flows so well dear sam! I love the opening as well as how youv written "When the quill is dry Or my muse is shy Or the peripatetic Pen pleads "pathetic" just brilliant and sometimes my muse is shy when some tend to read from a judgmental eye. You are definitely a poet and one that is authentic and one who writes poems worthy of accolades! This is a fave for me! Sending you light always . I see from comments that this won too! Hmm! Sorry i missed that! Congrats

Hello my Inky pal - thank you for the marvellous encouragement of my simple, tongue-in-cheek poem. You are such a high calibre, well respected poet yourself I take your compliments as high praise indeed. Blessings friend S:) xx

I love that you won it, "I'm a poet'"..and the poised pen over the final goal "re-shape the doleful, convert all this stressin". And the quotes!! Chesterton's cheese made me laugh, maybe we need a contest to thwart this assumption? J :)

What a brilliant response thanks :) And yes I agree, although I dabbled with a cheese theme in a moon poem once.. maybe that is too obvious. Blessings to you Jeanette, S:) x

The first two lines are something I remember Dad saying all the time when he inadvertently matched two words. It was only after he was gone we discovered a suitcase stuffed full of his poetry musings, recitals and letters from some 70 years before. It's a tribute, in one sense he became the unknown poet, though he did indeed know it x
