United We Stand

There is unrest everywhere, everyday.
Look around and really see,
the high price that we pay.
for the right to be free.

But in this land we call home.
The unrest is right next door.
Conflict that no one wants to own.
None taking responsibility anymore.

We elect politicians, that we shouldn't,
staying within party lines.
Knowing full well, they wouldn't
stand up for what is right at anytime.

We spend so much time hating each other.
It must be easier than trying to get along.
Does anyone remember, brother to brother?
Or is the belief that once was all wrong?

There are struggles we all have to face.
Of course, some more than others.
We all are here, in the same place.
Why not reach out to help another?

Is it so hard to understand, that we are in this together?
That we all may believe in the same thing?
This country was built on dreams of forever.
Maintaining this standard no matter what tomorrow brings.

These forever words " united we stand"
Were written a long time ago.
Facing the world together, hand in hand.
The foundation, from which we would grow.

Somewhere, along the road we have traveled,
we have lost sight of what was so clear.
Let us believe again, before it all comes unraveled.
We must stand together, protecting what we hold so dear.

Our nation is licking its wounds now as newscasters speak of treason, lies, broken promises and even paralyzing cold weather, Sandra. But we will heal. Don't lose hope. A sad and thought-provoking poem. I have to believe people will still reach out and help each other, though I understand that seems hard to believe. Hugs for you, Carolyn
