Uninvited Companion

A companion is defined as a close friend
Well I have an uninvited companion
You cannot see it-- It is invisible to the eye
Yet reeks havoc in my life
My life is not the same as it was-- never will be
This uninvited companion is Cancer
It made my life hell on earth
It kept putting obstacles in my way
It took me down to my knees
But I picked up myself up by my boot straps
And continued to fight with all my might I had in me
It will not rule or run my life
I will give it a swift kick into the darkness behind me
Is that light I see at the end of the tunnel
As I emerged from that tunnel I raise my flag in victory
The flag tells the whole world that I am a survivor
I know my uninvited companion will always be lurking
And trying to find ways to raise its ugly head
If I have anything to say
It will stay in the darkness of death
I AM ruler and survivor of MY LIFE

I'm touched by this, Pat. I applaud you for your courage and fortitude. There is a great deal to be said about the mind's ability to influence the outcome of an illness. May you find the strength to keep on keeping on. Thanks for your visit to my work.

Thank you very much for your comment. I never thought of it as a victory poem. It was just how I felt at that particular time of my life. It will be 3 years this fall. The doctors tell me that I am 95% cure right now!!!
