Underneath a Moonlit Sky
I sit in my lawn chair and reflect
I feel fortunate to be here tonight
Remembering my recent intentions
As I look at the river, my angst is over
The river was enticing me one night
Water ripples whispering, calling me
As I walked down to the water’s edge
Dark, melancholy thoughts took over
Imagining my body floating peacefully
Until I am sinking, drowning, giving up
My grief fading away under deep water
As my feet touch the soft murky bottom
Luckily, I was distracted that desperate night
I heard an owl hoot, I looked up, startled
Seeing his piercing eyes watching over me
I decided to turn back as my toes are wet
Walking home deep in thought, wondering
Who sent the owl, was it real, a warning?
Just a bird or an angel spirit sent for me
My pain and grief are now feeling lighter
I sat out under a moonlit sky that night
I heard another hoot, the owl was back
High up in a tree, his piercing eyes glowing
Feeling at peace knowing my angel is back
