Tyburn Gallows

Gasping
rasping
clasping
grasping
condemned man's last gasping, rasping breath,
hands on the noose clasping, grasping- death

(* Tyburn was the site of public hangings in London from the 12th century,
executing everyone from Highwaymen to Clergymen, at what is now Marble Arch)

Gregory Richard Barden January 30, 2018 at 2:21 AM Wonderful Tyburn and tribute to its namesake ... I wrote a paper on this in prep school long ago, and found it fascinating. They were executing people for literally just "looking the wrong way" at others at the time ... it was mass hysteria. Nicely done! I love this. In my opinion. This is the TOP poem of the contest. Just awesome.
