Two Divergent Suggestions
TWO DIVERGENT SUGGESTIONS
“Hey honey, how about taking a bicycle ride
Let the whirling wheels be our guide
We could ride by that willow you used to weep for
And the carpet of clover our eyes could not ignore
The two of us pedaling each as a pair
Just a beautiful Sunday for only us to share
We could stop by the little lake where we always see that same duck
The one who walks crooked and seems to say “this waddle was just my luck”
The sun’s just coming up and perhaps that’s a sign
And still that duck’s waddle, for him is just fine
We might see children at play in a park
But for right now sip your tea because it’s still a bit dark
We can take to the seat and take to the wheels
Form a fantasy out of reality and see how it feels
Tomorrow doesn’t matter nor does the past
And we can pedal slowly or we can go hyper fast
As the wind whips your hair you giggle a little
While wonder and wistfulness are caught in the middle
All the everyday scenes we seem to take for granted
Oh, and we could find out if those tulips have been planted”
Alas there was to be no bike ride with my mate of eight years
After I said it was over she begged “wait until my eyesight clears”
Her tears burned my heart but I had some objections
Because we would have been riding a bicycle built for two going in two divergent
directions
