Twilight On a Forest Walk
Twilight on a Forest Walk
I slip through the forest at twilight and see
Sleepy little creatures peeking at me;
Murmuring birds on the branches above,
The cooing of the mourning doves.
A mama squirrel drops loot in her nest,
And the crunch of my feet makes a noise;
A noise that disturbs both snake and bug,
And a ferrel cat climbs the tree up above.
In a puddle, there are squirming things,
Left by a cool spring rain.
Curling snails and flying insect wings.
Then through the branches I see a star,
Shadowed by the shape of an owl,
I know I must make my way back home,
Say goodnight to wild life, fish and fowl.
