Turkeys Soar

Amber is the dark green pine needles now Waiting to fall onto the forest floor Where they will hold in moisture and keep away weeds From their limbs turkeys will soar Moon flower still has blossoms white That graces the dark night Insects come to drink its delight Female redbird lands, eats, leaves then in flight
Unfinished

Anne-Lise, Here the pines have needles that turn amber and fall off in the fall, but they do not lose all their needles just part of them, so the trees stay green all year as well. Turkeys can fly when they are encroached upon by an enemy, but I have never seen one in a tree just a bit of imagination. Thanks for the insightful comment. Sara

Great autumn imagery. Loved it. They say Canadian scenes are the best. Great poem.

Victor, I have been over into Canada twice. The first time to see Nigara Falls and the second time we went to a park which was probably a city park, and it was lovely but did not look like fall at that time of year. Some many acres have burned up there this summer until I wonder what will be left to have nice leaves or color this fall. Sara

This is such a pretty poem, Sara. (Kind of wonder what those turkeys are even doing in it, actually). The second stanza is enchanting! Moonbeams and stardust, gw

The turkeys are my imagination. LOL..They are mostly on the ground but will fly and land in a tree when threatened but mostly they stay on the ground. We saw a flock the other day that were not wild turkeys, but tame ones and they were outside the fence beside the road. It was kind of a shock to see them. Thanks for dropping by with such a nice review of my work. Sara

Very nice Mrs Sara. The pine needles are brown here also and some of the trees are already naked from the summer drought. Autumn is in the air. I hope you are well and I really enjoyed your poem:)

Why, thank you, Daniel. All seems to be good here in Georgia. Yes, we are getting some fallish weather which is a good thing. Some of the trees' leaves have turned brown because it was so hot and dry, but some have fared fairly well and will probably put on a show soon. I hope so because I love the colors of fall. Thanks for the visit. Sara
